University of Brighton...

Brighton is always somewhere where I would have liked to live, therefore it was an easy choice when looking for universities. It is such a colourful town full or artists and creative like-minded people. I haven't managed to get to an open day at the Uni, however I am keeping on checking for updates on the open days.

Application Status: Interview date 30th March 2020

Pros of living in Brighton:

- Beach, seaside

- Arty and creative place

- IO Gallery

- Brighton Museum and Art Gallery

- Phoenix Gallery

- Royal Pavilion

- Devil’s Dyke

- great restaurants, cafes, and cinemas.

- Great for vegetarians/vegans. (When Mum and Sister come to visit)

- Tolerant atmosphere - people won’t bat an eyelid at the most bizarrely dressed people

- Pretty safe, lots of drunks on fri/sat eve, but aggro can easily be avoided.

- only Green MP in the whole of the UK

- beautiful pavilion and listening to great music

- Having a community of people who are accepting of different people and cultures and who are genuinely welcoming of diversity.

- Dome which is one of my favourite venues for theatre, music and comedy.

- Fantastic views from the many hills.

- Excellent recording studios like Brighton Electric.

- Lots to do if you have small children from music clubs, playgroups to the Sealife Centre and many parks and playgrounds.

- The myriad of comedy, open mics and great venues

- 2 hours to London by car

- 1 hour to London by train

Cons of living in Brighton:

- 2.5 hours to Bournemouth

- Miles away from Cumbria but quicker to get to than Bournemouth

- Apartment (1 bedroom) in City Centre £946.09

- Apartment (1 bedroom) Outside of Centre £796.55

- Apartment (3 bedrooms) in City Centre £1,784.09

- Apartment (3 bedrooms) Outside of Centre £1,442.50  - noise - can be a bit of party place in certain areas. some flats are hired for stag dos or weekend parties esp in the centre and hanover, and they don’t care about local residents.

- southern trains are a nightmare.

- parking!! It is so expensive and can be difficult to find an affordable place to leave your car.

- Traffic - on a sunny day forget certain routes: there will be thousands of Londoners sitting in their car taking hours to get to the beach.

- homelessness and drug abuse

- Brighton is nearly as expensive as London (it's sometimes known as London-on-sea)

- most beaches are made of pebbles.

I like the sound of the university-located fine art placement/studio-based artist residency. This sounds like a really supportive course. It would be interesting to see what the students that are there think about it.

I like the fact that they keep the course current and up to date with what employers are looking for.

The facilities really stand out to me here.
